I'm running Windows XP with a quad core processor motherboard and 4 GB ram. I have created an additional partition using Partition Commander that is around 46GB big. I can boot into my XP Windows from the System Commander window that comes up after I boot.
I once had Server 2003 as well as Linux running on this in separate partitions. Would Windows 10 make itself the default boot OS? If I had to I can run System Commander from a bootable CD and recreate it's Boot Manager. I just don't want to risk loosing out on a working OS just to try this new Windows 10 on a dual boot if things go astray.
Andre, What a well written & comprehensive guide, I had to uninstall build # 9926 due to several issue's, it could have been some I caused by installing the tech. Preview right over 8.1. This time I'll follow your guide, hopefully for a much better experience.
Thanks, David P.S. I tried to perform a screen capture of disk management, but couldn't seem to get it to work properly.
Right now it shows there are the following: Disk 0 (Only 1 Hard Drive Installed) 2 Different recovery partition's (1.46 GB-450MB) Layout/Simple Type/Basic 1 Primary Partition (8.75 GB) Layout/Simple Type/Basic 1 C: System,Boot,Page File,Primary Partition (232.89 GB) NTFS File System 63% Free (139.96 GB) I think since I had tech. Preview installed previousl over the top of 8.1, it messed up the partition's on my hard drive, I need to get that corrected before I proceed any further. Does anyone have any suggestion on the 'proper' thing to do @ this point??
Thanks, David. After partitioning a new HD I installed XP Pro into one of the primary partitions, made it active and booted into it a few times ok. Then I installed Windows 10 into the other partition and if set up and finalized. Booted into it a few times and no issues. There was a new screen that prompted for booting into the new Win 10 evaluation or to an earlier OS.
Dual Boot Vista And Mac Os X
When I tried to boot back into Windows XP I got an error message of cannot find ntloader and it would not boot back into XP. I have it now so that it boots into xp but cannot boot into the partition that has Win Pro evaluation. Is there an issue with dual booting XP that relies on a MBR and Windows 10 that uses the newer boot GPT boot record? Is there any issues having one OS, such as Windows XP PRO that uses a MBR to boot and then another partition that boots Windows 10 that uses a different boot configuration, the GPT?
